The Greater Pittsburgh Dalmatian Club was formed in 1964 by a number of Dalmatian owners from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. The club held seven matches before winning AKC approval to hold the first licensed Specialty. Five "B" matches were held between 1964 and 1967 and two "A" matches in 1967 and 1968. The first licensed Specialty was held in conjunction with The Western Pennsylvania Kennel Association at the Civic Arena, March 29, 1969. The next year, the club joined The Greater Pittsburgh Specialties and held seven shows with them between 1970 and 1976. The first independent Specialty Show was held on Friday, July 1, 1977. Our club has offered various programs, movies, obedience demonstrations, speakers, experienced handlers, Vets, etc. in an attempt to keep our members and the public informed about our breed. We try to interest both pet owners and show people with our educational programs. We offered puppy classes for new owners and hold a fun match each year at a local Pittsburgh area park. During the year, our members hold various fund raising activities to help finance the specialty and matches. We have sold Dalmatian novelties, plants, held raffles, grab bags, etc. to subsidize our shows. Our club newsletter ,"101 Spots", is published once a month, featuring many
interesting and informative articles about all aspects of Dalmatian life and
care. We hold an annual Awards Banquet to pay tribute to those handlers and
their Dalmatians who won titles and achievements during the year. |
